Enjoy this "stand in" essay (one of my former blog posts) until I can draft a more complete one for this film.
In
honor of football season (and the 69th anniversary of its release), here’s the 1-Sheet poster from Joe Penner’s
Mr. Doodle Kicks Off (1938).
Penner played Jimmie “Doodle” Bugs, the inept son of a former college football star (long before Jerry Lewis co-starred
with Dean Martin in That’s My Boy). June Travis plays his love interest, with Billy Gilbert, Jack Carson and
Richard Lane also along for the ride.
I’ll eventually drop in a longer essay on Mr. Doodle, but enjoy the poster for now. It’s one of my favorites
from his RKO pictures. Sorry about the glare from the flash. This one’s currently framed and hung on my wall for the
duration of the season.
